The customer was suffering with repeated tripping of one side of their dual-RCD board: Whenever they used their kettle, toaster, or microwave, all the lights in the house went out.
Magic!
We found this junction box in the garage loft. Someone had cut into the ring main to supply a pair of lights - not only connecting a dangerously thin cable, but introducing a point of failure where the un-sheathed earth conductors were touching the neutral terminal posts.
We re-connected the ring circuit back together safely and eliminated the problem tripping.
One very relieved customer!
